TESTIMONIALS
Tijana Foley, UK, mother of Luka, 18 months old, moderate hemiplegia of the right side.
"We went to ABR in June 2002 (Luka was 18 months) and after 80 hours of therapy he started crawling (first commando style, then properly) and after 120 hours he started walking! His neck extended visibly, and his body shape changed. When we went to the hospital for a regular yearly check up, the pediatrician could not believe his eyes. He said that from the notes he had, the last thing he expected to see was a child walking, talking, opening the door and saying bye."
Fanny Hendrickx, Belgium, mother of Lan, 3 years old, CP (severe) distonic quadriplegic.
"Before we started ABR Lan was throwing up ALL the time. He even threw up on an empty stomach. Throwing up every single drop given by G-tube. Admitted into the hospital for dehydration 13 times in 1 year.
Today Lan can eat, or drink (still formula and soft, fluid cereals) but I became a master in controlling his efforts to throw up. I think the main progress was from ABR therapy. The muscles from his stomach became so strong, they didn't have to support the breathing anymore. When my son Lan was 18 months old, neurologists and pediatricians said they would wait until he was 2.5 to install a baclofen pump and that we would need all kinds of orthopedic surgery to keep his body from twisting and to avoid dislocation of the hip. A few months later we started the ABR. I wish you could see Lan now. He has a perfect body. The collapsed thorax is gone. His pelvis tilted several centimeters (and this is measurable) the legs slowly move into the socket. His head is no longer 'stuck' between his shoulders. The changes that happened with Lan are truly amazing. He's 3 now."
Viviane Aziz, South Africa, mother of Isa, 9 years old, quadriplegic CP, birth asphyxia.
"Isabelle's scoliosis is almost non existing anymore, her body is more aligned, bigger chest, more independent arms and legs movements. Before her limbs were like fused with her trunk and any movement would cause twisting and tilting of her trunk, reduced rigidity. Better digestion, better elimination, huge appetite, good sleep, more trunk control, when before no trunk control only pulling up from rigidity or collapsing with no muscle tone….Once the doctors wanted to tube feed her because she was underweight and couldn't eat well. This is no longer a problem. I am typing and my heart is dancing from joy. She is nine, I got her age 10 underwear and they jut fit her perfectly, for the first time, I realized how beautiful and broad her chest and shoulders have become, she just filled her sleeveless vest… no bones sticking out, no twisted trunk, just perfectly aligned. She just has the size and the body of a well child now."
Connie Bessette, Canada, mother of Lindsay, 18 years old, originally Tetralogy of Fallot, then complications leading to left hemiplegia.
"We have been doing for 17 months. There is good improvement in the alignment of her body. We have noticed in the past 6 months significant improvements. Shoulder is further back, there is a larger distance between her neck and the edge of her shoulder. She has more control over her stomach muscles. She is walking better. She has a better balance. It is very encouraging for us to continue. This is something we have never experienced with all the therapies we have been doing before."
Diane Vincentz, Denmark, mother of Gaiwan, 9 years old, quadriplegic cerebral palsy caused by premature birth.
"Three years ago we began treating our son with ABR and are extremely pleased and grateful for the results it has brought. He was very weak, his stamina poor and he had extremely poor health. From the first weeks of treatment Gawain's breathing improved enormously. His flat, distorted breast cage has now filled out in all directions and he breathes deeply and evenly. His rib cage has a regular form and the severe scoliosis has been straightened, thus is a normal sitting position possible. The opening up of the ribcage brought increased mobility and use of his arms and hands long before we began exercises for the extremities. Head neck and throat exercises have brought great changes in structure and mobility. Drooling stopped, head control and mobility is vastly improved, and his speech is clear, loud and understandable - in three languages. Recently we could begin with exercises for the shoulders and hips and Gawain has immediately achieved greater mobility and strength in his arms. Crawling has improved, as well as high kneeling."
Christine Rothman, United States, mother of Alura, 4 years old, cp, spastic quadriplegia.
"When we started ABR a year ago, Alura's arms were in front of her, her trunk was so tiny and when put in the sitting position, she was lying on her lower back and would collapse. Now she is sitting on her bum and has the strength to hold herself up. She would not move, she would hyper extend with the legs straight out in front of her then collapse in the same spot. Now, her legs are relaxed and she bends them up like a baby would. Now she moves all over the place, moving forward with her left arm or rolling over from the back on to her tummy. She is now using her arms so much more that I hoped for. She can move her shoulders back and forth while she shifts her body weight to the left and right. She can lift up, before she couldn't push at all off the ground. She is remarkably stronger. She is making a lot of new sounds and she does not choke constantly like before. I highly recommend ABR in Canada."
Sarah Guat Lee, Singapore, mother of Rafael, 5 years old quadriplegic CP.
"Rafael has gained rotational mobility in the head. He no longer thrusts his head backwards as before. His neck is now more defined and has grown in length. His left hand has changed from being completely clasped all the time to much more relaxed and he is attempting to use it more. His sitting is a lot more stable now. He has improved in his posture at sitting and standing. He also has a lot more words and speaks in 5 to 6 words of sentences. It is great to know that ABR therapy has helped so many of our kids."
Christy Moritz, United States, mother of Maria, 9 years old, cp, spastic quadriplegia.
"Maria has now the ability to turn head from left to right without the entire trunk following. A large flat spot that was on the back of her head since infancy is now virtually non-existent. Her chest has grown; she has more volume in her back. Her stomach used to be almost concave and now is filling in quite nicely; In sitting, she used to sit only with her legs straight out in front of her with toes pointed across the room; now she is able to pull her legs up on her own and cross them into an "Indian-style" position while maintaining her balance and she will change sitting positions on her own, while maintaining balance, where before any slight movement would cause her to wobble and tip over; she was reported by one doctor to have kyphosis (a curved /hunched upper back) and now she is able to sit with her upper back straight."
